Began rowing in high school and continued in college at Grand Valley State University. At Grand Valley State University, Ben was a 2x Grand Finalist and a national silver medalist. As a coach, Ben has overseen Forest Hills Eastern to program best finishes and the school’s first ever National Qualifying boat. He has also overseen the implementation of our program’s middle school development team.
Novice Men’s Coach: Simon Scheer
2nd year with the program
Simon began rowing at Forest Hills Northern (we forgive him) in his junior year and then continued in college at Grand Valley State. Simon’s early college career was hampered by Covid. At Grand Valley, Simon was a member of the team’s executive board and was the team’s social media manger. Lessons he learned at GVSU will help him to install key skills such as teamwork, community building and communication to our novice boy’s squad.
Middle School & Varsity Assistant: Michelle Hopkins
2nd year with the program
Michelle began rowing as a sophomore in high school at Forest Hills Central (we forgive her) and continued in college at Eastern Michigan University. While a member of FHC, she won multiple state titles and medals at Midwest. She was a part of a bronze medaling junior 8+ at Canadian Nationals. At EMU she was a part of an undefeated novice 4+. She was also a 4-year scholar athlete at EMU. The past two season, Michelle has overseen our middle school development program. We are excited to have her join us on the high school squad this season.
